To become a business owner in Kenya, one should persue the legal process set out by different laws related to business. Below is a detailed procedure together with the necessary requirements.

i) Determine a business structure
This is the first step which is very crucial to any person aspiring to start a business. There are different types of business structure such as sole proprietorship, partnerships, corporations and limited liability company. It is advisable therefore, to determine the business structure you want to venture into and understand it's requirements and how it operates

ii) Choose a business name.
After settling on the type of business structure you want to venture into, the next step is to choose a business name which should be unique. Preserve the name for the purpose of the registration.

iii) Prepare the necessary documents such as the Memorandum and Articles of Association and ensure that you don't forget to attach any relevant document since it may cause delays to the process.

iv) Log into the eCitizen portal and submit your application. It is very necessary for one to familiarise with the portal or seek guidance from people who have knowledge about it and mostly those working in cyber cafes.

v) Await approval for certificate of incorporation and other documents such as NHIF, NSSF and the business pin.

vi) Register your business with the relevant authorities such as the Kenya Revenue Authorities.
