Adoption in Kenya is governed by the Children's Act No. 29 of 2022. Many factors can affect how long the entire adoption process takes. Such factors include the type of adoption, agency efficiency, legal requirements and the availability of children. It all depends on a few different factors and how willing you are to push through the obstacles. Bearing in mind that the adopting couple/parent must reside in Kenya with the child for at least three months before the legal procedure begins, the average time an adoption process takes is about 6 months but if the parent/couple drags it, it can take up to a year(s). For international adoptions, the process maybe lengthy. It is advisable to seek professional guidance for the process to take a reasonable time.
