Cybercrime is a growing global problem due to the increased use of internet. It encompasses a wide range of criminal activities which are set out in the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act of 2018. Example of such crimes include cybersquatting, phishing, false publication and publication of false information, child phonography, unauthorised access among others. Kenya has developed a legal framework to maintain cyber-security through the various provisions of law including Article 31 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, the Kenya Information and Communication, the Data Protection Act and the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act of 2018. Below is a guide of what you should do in circumstances where you find yourself a victim of cybercrime.

i) First, identify the cybercrime to which you have fallen a victim, whether it is unauthorised access, phishing or any other crime as set out in the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act of 2018.
ii) Gather all relevant evidence and details such as screenshots, emails, comments, messages, recording among others.
iii) Choose reporting channel. This could be the local authorities or the KE-CIRT //CC by sending an email or visiting their offices physically.
iv) Provide detailed information of the incident including, time, date, location or venue where the crime occurred as well as the type of crime. It is necessary also to give detailed profile of the person who has committed the crime.
You can as well seek guidance from a profession or a person who has past experienced on the same to take you through the process.
